On October 1, 2026 the family of Renée Good filed two federal civil lawsuits accusing ICE agent Jonathan Ross and senior Trump administration officials of responsibility for Good’s January 7, 2026 fatal shooting during Minneapolis Operation Metro Surge. The complaints name Ross, who fired three shots at Good, and identify figures including Stephen Miller, Kristi Noem, Gregory Bovino, and others as defendants; the suits allege the killing resulted from a discriminatory immigration operation and invoke federal civil rights law originally used against the Ku Klux Klan. Attorney Antonio Romanucci told reporters the filings mark a day of accountability for government agencies. The family’s claims include wrongful death and excessive force and say Ross remains uncharged and back at work nine months after the shooting. One lawsuit frames the operation as a conspiracy targeting Somali and Hispanic residents of Minnesota and elsewhere. The filings seek legal accountability from the United States and individual officials and set the stage for civil litigation that could force discovery into Operation Metro Surge and officials’ roles.
