The NFL suspended San Francisco 49ers owner Jed York for six regular‑season games and fined him $500,000 after his arrest earlier this year in a prostitution sting in Ohio. The league said York has not attended any games or league meetings this season and was credited with three games served; he is eligible to return on October 20 following the team’s game the previous night against Washington, the day the NFL’s fall league meetings begin in New York. York issued a team statement saying he accepts the punishment and apologized, calling the incident an "inexcusable mistake" and taking responsibility. In August York was arrested by the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force at a mobile home park after police say he attempted to pay $160 for sex; he was booked, released on $5,000 bond, and initially charged with engaging in prostitution. Prosecutors amended the charge to disorderly conduct; York pleaded no contest to that count and to possessing criminal tools for using his phone to respond to an undercover advertisement, was sentenced to one day in jail served concurrently and credited with one day served, and was fined $1,150. Police seized the $160 and later gave it to the human trafficking task force; York also completed an online course. York also owns stakes in Premier League club Leeds United and Rangers via 49ers Enterprises.
