Drew Rasmussen carried a no-hitter into the eighth inning and struck out 10 as the Tampa Bay Rays beat the New York Yankees 1-0 in ALDS Game 1 at Tropicana Field. Austin Wells broke up the bid with a double in the top of the eighth but was thrown out trying to stretch it into a triple to end the inning. Rasmussen finished eight scoreless innings, allowing one hit and two walks while generating 23 whiffs and setting a Rays postseason record for swings-and-misses in a game. Bryan Baker closed with a scoreless ninth, striking out pinch-hitter Giancarlo Stanton. Yankees starter Gerrit Cole lasted five innings, yielding one earned run with five strikeouts and one walk. Cody Simpson made a sliding catch in the fourth that helped preserve Rasmussen’s no-hit bid. The Rays’ pitching dominance supplied all the offense needed in a game decided by a single run.
