Commanders and Giants settle for 27-27 tie after OT mistake

Jayden Daniels' late overtime scramble with 12 seconds left and the ball at the Giants 24 cost the Washington Commanders a chance to win, as Daniels held onto the ball on a called pass and went down for no gain; Washington had no timeouts and could not spike the ball, ending the game in a 27-27 tie. Daniels returned from a dislocated left elbow and played just under 70 minutes, completing 68 percent of his passes while combining for 302 yards passing and rushing and scoring two long rushing touchdowns; box stats show he was 17 of 25 for 199 yards passing and rushed nine times for 103 yards and two TDs. Coach Dan Quinn said the sequencing and late-play decision were his responsibility, saying the play call should have been an out-of-bounds or clock-management throw earlier to “finish the kick earlier.” The overtime sequence followed a turnover when Daron Payne stripped the ball from Cam Skattebo while New York was in field-goal range; Dominic Zvada had already missed three field goals, including one in overtime. The Giants erased a 14-point fourth-quarter deficit as Jameis Winston finished with 326 yards passing and three touchdowns, including a late tying 17-yard TD to Malik Nabers with 1:43 left. The tie leaves Washington at 1-3-1 and New York atop the NFC East at 3-1-1 and closes a mistake-filled period in which neither team scored in overtime.
