The Golden State Valkyries beat the Atlanta Dream 64-55 in Game 5 of the WNBA Finals, taking a 3-2 series lead and leaving the Dream one loss from elimination. At halftime the game was a defensive slog, Golden State leading 25-22, and the Valkyries closed the game by holding Atlanta to a season-low 55 points and 29.2 percent shooting. Veronica Burton finished with 13 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists and 4 blocks and praised teammate Kiah Stokes, saying, "It’s very nice to have Kiah in my back line." Kiah Stokes finished with 13 points, 7 rebounds and 3 blocks while Golden State forced 15 turnovers and converted them into 21 points. The Valkyries have relied on that defensive identity in their three Finals wins, previously holding Atlanta to 64 and 62 points in other victories. Game 6 will be back in Atlanta on Thursday afternoon with the Dream’s season on the line.
