Early Voting Hits 40.5 Million Ballots Cast Nationwide

politicsOct 29, 202679149

The University of Florida Election Lab reports 40,532,275 ballots were cast nationwide by October 28, a pace well ahead of the 2022 midterms when roughly 32 million ballots had been cast by the comparable point. Texas saw particularly strong early participation, with first-week turnout roughly 45 percent higher than its 2022 first-week level and Democrats leading in the state’s early vote totals. State election offices supplied the data compiled by the UF lab. Local jurisdictions continue to report heavy daily increases and some jurisdictions warn lines and peak-day pressure as Election Day approaches. The early-vote gap means campaigns and election officials are adjusting get-out-the-vote and staffing plans for the remaining days before November 3.
