No Kings slogan resurfaces at July 4 rallies

politicsJul 5, 202634784

The slogan No Kings reappeared widely on July 4, plastered on signs and shouted at local demonstrations from Bar Harbor, Maine to Tarrant County, Texas and Chicago. Organizers tied No Kings to broader pro-democracy themes and policy targets, pairing the chant with No I.C.E. and anti-war messaging and framing it explicitly against former President Donald Trump. In Chicago speakers and participants invoked No Kings alongside Puerto Rican independence, naming Alderman Jessie Fuentes, Congresswoman Delia C. Ramirez, and Juan Dalmau. In Washington, posts described hundreds of masked Patriot Front marchers on the Capitol while No Kings coalitions blocked intersecting streets; another post said Trump could only recruit about 400 marchers in DC that day. Demonstrators reported confrontations with local authorities, including an account that an official postal vehicle blocked a plaza in Ellenton, Florida where a No Kings protest was underway. Supporters described the slogan as a normalization of dissent and a reclaiming of July 4 rhetoric from Trump-aligned demonstrators.

Still though. 250 years of America. No kings. Democracy. Many problems but many very great things. And America is NOT that guy. Give me a few things you love about America, whether you live here or not. For me: - The popular music of the last 100 years - R.E.M. - Flannery O’Connor - Basketball
