Mario Kart Tour to shut down on September 30, 2026
Mario Kart Tour is ending on September 29th, 11 PM PT faq.mariokarttour.com/hc/en-us/art...
Rest in pieces. While I absolutely hope it gets preserved, this game ruined Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Those Tour tracks were not designed with traditional MK mechanics in mind and it absolutely shows. They are alien to the tracklist, bringing the overall quality of MK8D down by a noticeable amount.
Considering how this is mostly a single player score attack game, I'm surprised this didn't get the Animal Crossing Pocket Camp treatment and get a "Complete" version that's offline and rotates tours around by date or something.
This is why I don't play server-based games ... I don't mean this in a I-told-you-so way, either, because I got attached before and paid for it.
Are there any efforts to preserve this game?
I played every day since 2019! I love Mario Kart ☺️
Nintendo has got to work out a way of preserving these.
Initially I was like "Well that sucks but the BCP did cover all the tracks and World bought over some costumes" til I remembered 2 tracks are just stuck here
Not even pulling the genius stunt they did with Pocket Camp and making a full offline version... Never played this, but seeing people's work just be deleted completely is a massive disappointment, especially with how ACPC was handled so well...
I want to be sad over this, but honestly I'm very relieved It was an interesting experiment, but I really hope they don't do this again as MK on mobile sounds more appealing as a concept than in execution I'd rather them solely invest in the console games - their main bread n butter
Piranha Plant Pipeline in September:
I wonder how the folks who paid $40 for Diddy Kong are feeling right about now...
DK jr getting sealed back to the forgotten mario characters hole for 1000 years again cause Mario Kart Tour is ending on September 29th
FE Heroes being one of the few non-Pokemon Nintendo mobile games left is really telling about how waifus normally keep this shit alive lol I imagine there's probably already some fan preservation efforts underway for this, since I doubt Ninty will make an offline version of this like they did AC
As much of a Mario Kart Tour game Mario Kart Tour was This STINKS
I sincerely hope when they time comes Nintendo considers giving us DLC for World including stuff from Tour Some of these costumes and characters are too good to just disappear C'mon Nintendo, don't be like Sony and just take things away from us
Thank you for your service
Imagine spending the price of a full game on ONE (1) character and then they just shut the game off forever. please check in on your diddy kong mutuals
a fool and his monkey are soon parted
Why is Diddy Kong $40?!
All I can think of is the fact that this is twice the price of Big Chungus in that one Looney Tunes gacha game
mfers will be like "sony and xbox are evil corporations but thank god nintendo is just a toy company full of magic and whimsy" meanwhile diddy kong cost forty bucks and he's about to evaporate
I just remembered this one Twitter account that listed several games or game-related items that were cheaper than the Diddy Kong Tour pack. Takes me back.
'Mario Kart Tour' is officially shutting down permanently on September 29 🏎️ No offline version is planned
Welp, that would explain why they were going all in on porting tracks to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe via the DLC
Tragic day for the 12 people who remembered to log in
if only they would stop killing games 😔
An offline version is sort of redundant when most of the tracks got to MK8D anyway, and MKW does outfits.
piranha plant pipeline right now
that's a good Sad Mario image, saving for future Nintendo-related news
If buying isn't ownership then piracy isn't stealing.
Please buy Mario Kart 8 Deluxe + Booster Pass to continue to enjoy these tracks. It’s only $90, what a value! Sure the game is over a decade old, and we’re discontinuing the console it was originally made for, but go fuck yourself! Now lick my boot.
If I was Nintendo, anyone who spent money on this get a free alt costume for a racer and a free kart. Anyone who didn’t spend money on the app then pay for it as DLC. Otherwise, I hope they put some racers and tracks in Mario Kart World.
Why...the fuck...are companies constantly doing this.. ?
If people will never own their games again we need to change renting capabilities and rename "Buy" to "Borrow"
If they can make an offline version with pocket camp they can with Martio kart tour with local multiplayer connection also stop killing games aaa
no more piranha plant pipeline and all of the retro tracks made for it, unfortunate
Oh no, they've killed MK Tour. Anyway, back to the better mobile Mario Kart!
[Mario Kart Tour] Nintendo will NOT be releasing an offline version of the game after the servers shut down on Sep 30. (In contrast, Animal Crossing Pocket Camp did receive a paid offline version after its servers shut down.)
I always had some interest in playing it, but I never was into the rotating Tour format, so I didn't play it much. Was really hoping for a "Mario Kart Tour Complete" so that I could actually have a tangible goal of "Complete all the things".
I know a lot of the tracks are in MK8 (and I'm assuming MKW too but I can't afford a Switch 2 at $800+ CAD), but that's still pretty awful that a Mario Kart game with its own unique tracks is basically being wiped from existence minus piracy, even if it's a mobile game
Oh, but I was told that Nintendo was better (They're not. They're just as evil. They just do it differently)
Piranha Plant Pipeline on September 30th
Remember when we could play video games without worrying about them being completely inaccessible in the future. This is exactly why the Stop Killing Games movement is important. Sure, most of this game’s assets have been dumped but the authentic gameplay experience will be lost to time.
still bitter dragalia lost didnt get an offline version tbqh
i can't believe people were pleading nintendo innocent amidst the sony/xbox controversies t...t...this alone is just as bad as killing physical media and laying off entire companies' worth of employees, quakin in me boots rn
What i said a while back remains as green as grass
Tour was an inherently flawed game but I genuinely liked a lot of the ideas it presented, it just had piss poor execution. That said, no offline version really sucks, great going Nintendo, you've murdered my entire bloodline AGAIN.
"Will you bring the costumes and characters over to Kart World?" Nintendo:
Piranha Plant Pipeline is about to become lost media. Smart move Ninty
Awful day for all the Diddy Kong fans.
So many characters and outfits lost... Hopefully Nintendo is bringing those over to World!!
Nintendo will officially shut down the Mario Kart Tour app on September 29, bringing the mobile racing game’s nearly seven-year run to an end.
Never played it then again I don’t play that many mobile app games…
Please tell me they’re joking…..
R.I.P Mario Kart Tour (2019-2026)
I never played it given how it was a microtransaction-riddled mess, if not was what Satoru Iwata (RIP) was afraid...
Just another reason I stopped playing so many Live server games, its sort of a fancy way of saying "We can shut this down when we bleed you dry."
I stopped playing this 5 years ago
Never played it then again I don’t play that many mobile app games…
Goodbye my dear Petey Pirhana (Gold) I’ll miss you dearly
I know what you’re up to Nintendo
I don’t even play this game but dude wtf
I haven't gotten around to playing this game due to various reasons, but I'm honestly glad it was supported for a good while. Considering the Booster Course Pass and mods for other games, it has definitely left its legacy in the series.
That is disappointing but I don’t think the app has been popular since the Booster Course Pass and World came out.
I actually think there should be more outrage over Tour not getting an offline version after Animal Crossing set the precedent. I get that it's a live service mobile game, but it's also a Mario Kart game and has so much exclusive content.
While of course it's not as bad as what Sony's been up to, it's in a similar vain and should be treated as such imo.
It's cause they know that $20 for a microtransaction free version of Mario Kart Tour is a better value than $80 Mario Kart World
There's no outrage because this is what people expected, I feel like. Nintendo is nothing but inconsistent and Animal Crossing was just a random good thing they did.
Been a big fan of tour since i played the beta. Very sad its not getting an offline version
Wait, is Tour ending service or something?
yeah, like, it's just fucking weird that it doesnt like, yeah, it's a mobile mario kart so i doubt it's anybody's go to, but it's not like it was some throwaway release either
Hot take: I think Nintendo shutting down Mario Kart Tour and not providing an offline version is worse than them charging $80 for Mario Kart World. At least with World, you will always be able to access what you paid for.
I think the only reason this is a hot take is that both are bad but one is worse, and that nuance is easily lost
Even if Mario kart tour was controversial or even bad, it should still exist. Removing it is basically lost media.
It should be an industry standard that every live service/gacha game has a means to be accessible after it gets shut down and stops receiving updates. Make gachas gambling free after EOS. Square Enix has the right idea with their remakes of mobile games.
MK was an overall solid series until Tour came out, made worse when they allowed Tour to infect mainline Kart. If you are going to drastically change the formula, at least keep it separate. Don't bring down an otherwise great game. To hell with Tour, I hope it never comes back officially.
8DX is actually such a crazy example of quality vs quantity when you compare the base Wii U content to everything added post-launch in DX.
They fit in surprisingly well with World, I think. Surprised more of them didn't end up there, I think only the ice cream one did.
is a dlc, idk how can that ruin the game as it existed before
Mario Kart Tour, which gave us a garage full of Kongs when the fandom was running on fumes, will be taken to the scrapyard on September 30th.
I'm not completely desperate about this one, because even smaller and nicher mobile games have lived on through unofficial private servers.. and I'm sure it will take no time for Mario Kart Tour to get one. But at the same time, they need to get Diddy, Dixie and Funky in MK World like.. yesterday.
Fingers crossed Dixie will find a new racing career in World.
As much as I didn‘t really care for tour as a game, I do appreciate it as a game that finally gave Dixie her Mario kart debut and also (In a weird way) finally acknowledging DK Jr.’s adult design and his importance to the Mario Kart series so it’s a little bittersweet to see it go.
It is wild to me that they’re doing this given how ridiculous some of the DLC prices were. Can’t even call it a microtransaction when it’s in the tens of dollars lmao. No refunds and no ways to play after that date. I suppose it’s nice that they’re doing these bonuses in its twilight days, but still
