The Boston Red Sox completed a doubleheader sweep of the Tampa Bay Rays, winning the nightcap 5-3 to extend their winning streak to 11 games and move to 48-48. Wilyer Abreu homered twice, including a two-run shot that tied the game and his 13th homer that put Boston ahead; it was his sixth career multi-homer game. All-Star Willson Contreras returned from a five-game suspension and hit his 21st homer as a back-to-back first-inning response to an early Rays lead. Tampa Bay’s Junior Caminero hit his AL-leading 29th homer to tie the game at 3 in the third, and Mason Englert (0-3) allowed five runs in five innings for the Rays. Greg Weissert (2-2) was one of six Red Sox relievers who combined for 6 2/3 scoreless innings, and All-Star closer Aroldis Chapman worked a perfect ninth for his 20th save. Boston had beaten Tampa Bay 10-0 in Friday’s opener behind six strong innings from rookie Jake Bennett and homers by Masataka Yoshida and Carlos Narvarez. Tampa Bay plans lefty Ian Seymour (6-2, 4.59 ERA) to start Saturday against Boston lefty Patrick Sandoval (0-0, 2.08).
