Josh Kerr breaks men's mile world record in London

Josh Kerr broke the mile world record at the London Diamond League, running 3:42.66 to better Hicham El Guerrouj’s 3:43.13 mark from 1999 by 0.47 seconds. Kerr called the eight-month preparation 'Project 222' and used pacemakers Brandon Kidder to 800 meters and Zan Rudolf to 1,000 meters, posting lap splits of 54.75, 55.88 and 55.76 to hit the bell. U.S. record-holder Yared Nuguse and Wales’s Jake Heyward chased on the final lap but Kerr extended his lead to win by three seconds. Kerr covered the first 1,500 meters in 3:27.62, shaving his British record from the 2024 Olympic final, and credited Brooks and his team for a bespoke spike and speed suit that aided the run. Nine men finished under 3:50 and there were six other personal bests in the field, including a German national record from Robert Farken (3:46.82). Kerr is the seventh British man to hold the mile world record and the first since Steve Cram in 1985.

I’d like to see the mile back in the Olympics. They run on a 400m track. 4 laps and a bit, feels like a better distance than 1500m and has the history of the 4 minute mile. 3:42.66 is crazy fast.
