Blue Jays unveil Joe Carter home‑run statue at Rogers Centre

The Toronto Blue Jays unveiled a statue of Joe Carter outside Rogers Centre today honoring the club's 1992 and 1993 World Series teams. At the pregame ceremony Carter threw out the first pitch to George Springer and Vladimir Guerrero Jr presented Carter with a custom home run jacket reading "Touch 'Em All, Joe!", which Carter then wore. Carter said, "When Vlad came out and gave me the the home run jacket, I was ready to put the uniform on and go hit. I could probably hit. I can't run, but I could probably still hit." Observers noted maple leaves at the statue's base and some questioned the likeness, with one comment comparing it to John Olerud at about 44. The unveiling took place as part of the Blue Jays' 50th-season celebrations and spotlights the franchise's back-to-back titles and Carter's 1993 walk-off home run.

My favorite Joe Carter moment was when he was with the Cubs. He took a hard-hit ball off the bounce in center field and threw out Gary Carter at second, which prevented G. Carter from completing a cycle that day in Wrigley.
