The Los Angeles Dodgers are calling up top outfield prospect Josue De Paula from Double-A Tulsa, manager Dave Roberts confirmed, with De Paula expected to join the team in Miami on Friday as Shohei Ohtani heads to the injured list. De Paula is the Dodgers' No. 1 prospect per MLB Pipeline and is the first position player promoted straight from Double-A during Andrew Friedman's tenure as president of baseball operations. Across 124 games at Double-A this year he slashed .303/.401/.547 with 27 home runs, 104 RBIs, an OPS of .948, 31 stolen bases, 81 walks and 87 strikeouts. The 6-foot-3 right-handed hitter signed with Los Angeles as an international free agent in 2022 for $397,500 and has worked with Jason Heyward on improving his defense. Roberts said De Paula will receive the "lion's share" of starts at designated hitter and could also play in the outfield, but because he was not on the 40-man roster on September 1 he is not eligible for the postseason roster.
