Let's say the next Donkey Kong Country or Country-style platformer goes the Super Mario Bros. Wonder route and has multiple playable characters of equal status. Ignoring recolors and DLC additions, Wonder had eight. So which eight playable characters would YOU want for the next Donkey Kong Country?
Personally: 1. Donkey 2. Diddy 3. Dixie 4. Funky 5. Tiny 6. Chunky 7. Lanky 8. Pauline Cranky was a novelty in Tropical Freeze, but he works best when he can bitch. Let's explore Funky more as an adventurer, return the DK64 trio, and continue to develop Bananza's Pauline as an honorary Kong.
1. Kiddy Kong okay 2-8 don't matter I won't play as them
DK Diddy Dixie Cranky Funky Lanky Chunky Tiny
1. Donkey 2. Diddy 3. Dixie 4. Kiddy 5. Lanky 6. Tiny 7. Chunky 8. Funky 4 heavyweights and 4 lightweights.
I'd actually prefer less playable characters if that meant they're unique. Didn't quite like how Wonder (or the NSMB games) did things. My ideal scenario would be the return of the tag system, but flexible so you could build your team (like in Sonic Advance 3). (and plz.. only Kongs, no Pauline 🧍♀️)
1. Donkey 2. Diddy 3. Dixie 4. Cranky 5. Funky 6. Candy 7. Pauline 8. Krusha (making his playable return from DK64)
DK, Diddy, Dixie, Kiddy, Cranky, Lanky, Tiny, and Chunky cover all the main platformer playable Kongs and also coincidentally add up to 8
This has nothing to do with the question but the gif made me remember of that weird ass era of nintendo where every new game got the same trailer where a nuclear family wanders around a random forest and stumbles on the main cast of the game in real life Seriously how were there so many of these
Donkey Diddy Dixie Kiddy Cranky Pauline Funky K. Rool Top 3 are non-negotiable in my mind. The Retro era has drastically raised Funky and Cranky's profiles as playable characters. K. Rool's resurgence has been so huge, it feels like a natural next step. (1/?)
1. Donkey 2. Diddy 3. Dixie 4. Cranky 5. Lankey 6. Chunky 7. Krunch 8. Pauline
